I had the privilege of attending supervision training at the Sophia Center with Maureen Conroy in 2008. Since that time, I have served as the supervisor to numerous students and graduates of four different schools of spiritual direction. I enjoy serving as their supervisor and consider it an important part of the DeepWardly mission and service.
Due to the lack of trained supervisors, many spiritual directors look for peer supervision groups in order to have some form of companionship and accountability in their ministry. While peer supervision groups offer blessings, many participants experience frustration about how infrequently they are able to talk about and savor their own experiences because of the size of the group.
Individual supervision allows you the opportunity to grow as a spiritual director and experience greater freedom in the ministry. Every month, you will have the opportunity to present a particular situation or experience that has been significant and to gain clarity about how God is at work through your ministry.
