Thank you so much for your interest in spiritual direction! I have enjoyed being a spiritual director for twenty years and look forward to an opportunity to journey with you and God! As you might know, there are many different definitions and styles of spiritual direction. I define spiritual direction as a companioning that helps a directee to name and savor the nuances of his or her relationship with God, which draws the directee deepwardly in love, freedom, mercy, gentleness, healing, and self-awareness.
Another great definition of spiritual direction comes from William Barry and William Connolly, who, in their book, The Practice of Spiritual Direction, write—
"We define… spiritual direction, then, as help given by one [person] to another which enables that person to pay attention to God’s personal communication to him or her, to respond to this personally communicating God, to grow in intimacy with this God, and to live out the consequences of the relationship. The focus of this type of spiritual direction is on experience, not ideas."
Spiritual direction will give you an opportunity to pause and reverence the importance of your relationship with God in a deeper way. Through our monthly meetings and through sharing your experiences of prayer and God, you will grow in an awareness of your inner life and hear God's Spirit speaking through your words and affective movements, or feelings. Regardless of your religion or Christian denomination, spiritual direction can benefit you; it is for anyone who earnestly seeks to encounter the Living God. spiritual Ddrection meetings are usually monthly, with sessions lasting from 45-60 minutes.
Wise people always explore the benefits of something before they invest, and spiritual direction is an investment in your relationship with God. Not everyone is ready for spiritual direction. Those who are ready and who will benefit the most from spiritual direction are the men and women who desire to:
