You don't have to serve as a spiritual director for long to realize that supervision is imperative! It helps you to remain completely free and conscious in your companionship with your directees. Tom will not only help you to process your spiritual direction experiences in supervision, but, as an expert in spiritual direction and the Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius of Loyola, he will also offer you insights into becoming a more effective director.
There are many different styles of spiritual direction. Tom is trained in the "evocative-contemplative" method, which means that you, as the directee, will do most of the talking during sessions. Tom's role will be to help evoke your experience of prayer and of God so that you can hear God's Spirit speaking through you about your relationship with God. It is very casual, peaceful, and contemplative (and often involves a cup of hot coffee or tea!).
